      Bothell WA Tidbits

Bothell is a city in Washington that's located in two counties: King and Snohomish. With a per capita income of $40,621, Bothell gains the 78th spot out of all the 614 areas in Washington. Bothell has a total land area of 13.7 square miles.

Aside from Bothell being in two counties, another unique characteristic about the city is that most of its streets are numbers and not names of people. The cities surrounding Bothell are Brier, Mill Creek, Kenmore by the Lake, Woodinville, and Kirkland.

A Native American tribe known as the Sammamish were the earliest settlers in the area. Around 200 inhabitants occupied the region near Lake Washington and Issaquah Creek. The Sammamish were forced to relocate when a conflict ensued in Puget Sound territory.

Four years after the war, in 1870, Columbus S. Greenleaf and George R. Wilson claimed the section previously populated by the Sammamish. They started to build homesteads and eight families followed soon after. In 1876, a Canadian named George Brackett purchased properties and started his own business. The small town slowly grew, and a general store, school, and sawmill were constructed in the subsequent years. Brackett decided to sell 80 acres of land to his fellow settler, David Bothell.

In 1888, the first postmaster, who incidentally bought Bothell's property, named the new town in David's honor. A railroad was contracted that same year and it was a great help in hauling coal to Issaquah. Progress continued in the trifling town and there was huge increase of people transported to and from Bothell. Soon after, it was incorporated on April 14, 1909. More people migrated to Bothell and the booming logging industry started to decline. This sudden change compelled Bothell to switch from logging to farming.

Bothell experienced numerous annexations and this led to a rise in Bothell's population. In 1950, the town only had around 1000 residents, but in 2006, Bothell had over 30,000 inhabitants. During the 90s, Bothell serves as a bedroom community for the residents in Seattle.

In 2010, Bothell began to reconstruct its business district. A budget of $150 million was alloted to relocate the State Route 522, and expand areas like the city hall, city park, and the Bothell– Everett Highway.

Bothell is the ideal place to raise a family with its diverse residential areas. These neighborhoods include: Canyon Creek, The Highlands, Lake Pleasant, Beckstrom Hill, Norway Hill, Pioneer Hills, Queensgate, Mays Pond, Brentwood, Riverfront, Waynita, Westhill, and Shelton View.

Aside from Downtown Bothell, the city has other business districts namely: Canyon Park, Fitzgerald, Country Village, North Creek, and Thrasher's Corner. Canyon Park is a commercial district near the Bothell-Everett Highway that houses the city's top employers. Country Village is Bothell's famous outdoor shopping mall.

Bothell is not only popular for its peaceful residences, but the city is also a conducive place for learning. Two major educational institutions are based in Bothell: a) Cascadia College and b) University of Washington, Bothell.

In 2006, Cascadia College was recognized as the 2nd most excellent community college in the U.S. next to Atlanta Technical College. In 2014, Money Magazine named UW Bothell as one of the country's top college and universities. Additionally, Washington Monthly included UW Bothell on their list of "Best Bang for the Buck." Among all the colleges and universities, UW Bothell gained the 6th spot.
